The Patient Service Coordinator serves as a member of the healthcare team as an organized, efficient colleague with expertise communicating to customers, family members, physicians, providers and healthcare team members. Emphasis is placed on creating a culture to customer focused service where the actions of every associate leave the patient or visitor with a belief that Allen Hospital is focused on:

Coordinates and provides administrative support for nursing staff under the direction of the Director or Nurse Manager. Supports the delivery of the department’s services. Contributes to the overall goals of Medical Surgical Services which in turn ensures high quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and answers all patients, families, physicians, staff that present to the unit.
  • Takes incoming phone calls and directs to appropriate personnel. Responds to call lights in person when appropriate or by phone.
  • Communicates and coordinates any unresolved patient/family issues promptly to unit leadership including Providers.
  • Works with manager to improve patient services.
  • Serves as a resource for patients and patients' families needing direction or information.
  • Communicates with charge nurse and supervisors for compliance.
  • Responsible for observing cardiac monitors, interpreting cardiac arrhythmias, reporting cardiac arrhythmias to nursing and medical staff.
  • Ensures all appropriate documents are maintained and accurate for patient records.
  • Facilitates incoming patient records through care system for continuum of care and to and from courts and other agencies. 
  • Organizes and makes sure there are adequate supplies ordered from Office Max and lets the manager know needs.  Incoming supplies are maintained in a neat area and items are put away. 
  • Make copies of any forms needed for use on the unit.  Maintains forms in the event electronic health record system is down.
  • Coordinates daily call schedule for Providers including trauma events.
  • Coordinates patient Emergency Room transfers between other hospital locations.
  • Manages patient information to receiving hospital.
  • Coordinates and manages patient consultations with various Providers in and out of the system.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years secretarial or comparable work experience or equivalent education.
  • Internal applicants within Allen, with 2 years of demonstrated and documented experience of exceeding the performance expectations in patient care and living our values, may be considered.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Excellent telephone manner, respect for confidentiality.
  • Ability to work for a large multitude of the management team and physicians.
  • Demonstrates ability to work on several projects simultaneously, function effectively with disruptions and work independently
