Overview

The Executive Director is responsible for the effective operation of Surgical Services at UnityPoint Health Des Moines.

 

As a member of the UnityPoint Health – Des Moines operations team, the Executive Director will lead the assigned service line and the team’s commitment to quality, service, growth and fiscal accountability and will be held accountable for the accomplishment of the results as indicated in the annual strategic plan.  The Executive Director creates a vision and strategic direction for the service lines, which supports the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of UPH-DM.  

 

With the support of the administrative team and the strategic plan, the Executive Director assumes responsibility for the creation, development and implementation of new programs; seeking avenues of growth and new opportunities; guides the development of a patient centered service, which sets the standards in quality, service and cost.  As the expert in the business of the service line, serves as an excellent resource and representative for the service line among health care providers, partners and students affiliated with the system.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the key leader and role model for the team, departments and all UPHDM.
  • Balances individual, team and collegial responsibilities; supports the direct report team members and leaders in all areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in as many collegial meetings and activities as possible and develops relationships to support the other members of the executive director team.
  • Responsible for business leader and administrative functions for the service line such as budget development/oversight, marketing, strategic planning and building business/provider relationships.
  • Leads customer service and quality initiatives; evaluates outcomes and data to continuously improve operational processes, procedures & systems; integrates appropriate technology
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and engagement with the current and future health care environment.
  • Serves as provider liaison to ensure that patient care services, procedures, protocols and policies are met.
  • Responsible for clinical services within the service line such as standards of care, clinical pathways and staffing plans.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Education:

Master’s degree or commiserate experience in a related field.

Certification in related field preferred

Experience:

 

 

 

 

·   Five years of progressively more responsible management positions within surgical services in hospital, outpatient, or clinical environment. 

·   Demonstrated ability to develop positive relationships with physicians, management, and community.  

·   Excellent performance improvement results. 

·   Experience as an excellent communicator, manager, and developer of people and programs. 

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Certification and licensure in the State of Iowa should be maintained when appropriate.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

 

 

 

·   Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

·   Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, and web browser.

 

Other:

 

 

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
