Days (8 hour shifts)

 

Participates in and oversees day-to-day operations of the Cardiopulmonary Rehab departments utilizing quality, cost effective patient care principles. This position works closely with the program Medical Director and collaborates with the referring physicians to increase collaboration, improve efficiencies, implement standardized practices. Responsible for compliance of all federal and state regulation and other accrediting agencies.

Responsibilities

Patient Evaluation, Treatment Interventions and Education

  • Assess patient for appropriate cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation needs.
  • Complete evaluations, and establish individualized treatment plans (ITP’s), taking into consideration age, cognitive level, socioeconomic status and support level.
  • Provide appropriate disease specific patient education.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with referring providers to ensure consistent plan of care and treatment plans.

Supervision of Outpatient Rehabilitation

  • Lead and mentor team of exercise physiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists and other rehab specialists.
  • Responsible for daily operations and staffing including hiring, onboarding, facilitation of orientation, and team member performance management.
  • Coordinates education and in-services also including required AACVPR staff competencies.
  • Plans for use of space, equipment acquisition and program implementation related to rehab services.
  • Supervises staff in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and programs. Adheres to governmental regulations as they relate to Cardiac – Pulmonary Rehab and the national accrediting body.
  • Assists with the development and continuing education needs of staff in the department. Recommends annual goals and objectives for the team and program specific to the AACVPR (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehab).
  • Develops, monitors and manages staffing plans to maintain adequate staff in response to variable patient census.
  • Monitors patient referrals and ensures timely admissions into the program occur. Works directly with cardiologist, pulmonologist, cardiothoracic surgeon, and all other referring clinics/providers.
  • Assumes fiscal responsibility for personnel, supplies, and equipment.
  • Provides clinical leadership by coaching, directing, coordinating, and delegating in an organized manner. Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Has a direct working relationship with the Cardiac and Pulmonary Medical Directors,
  • Responsible for team member rounding.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe exercise area for patients to attend in phase 2 and 3 cardiopulmonary rehab.

Performance Improvement

  • Assists in development of annual budget, authorizes expenditures according to the signature authorization policy and monitors performance; takes corrective action when appropriate to maintain control of financial resources.
  • Responsible for performance improvement action plans and implementation of plans, monitoring of supplies/distribution and chart audits.
  • Participates in UPH Cardiopulmonary Rehab Leadership meetings.
  • Responsible for working of denials/work queues of rehab patients to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
  • Identifies and coordinates process improvements.
  • Stays current on AACVPR and ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Exercise Physiology, Respiratory Therapy or related healthcare field.
  • Master’s Degree in specialty field preferred.
  • 3-5 years knowledge and expertise in cardiopulmonary rehab or related clinical field.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Relevant state licensure or certification (i.e. RN, RRT, ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS)
