A Security Officer I is responsible for providing services that seek to create a safe and secure environment for the hospital community. The Security Officer undertakes activities designed to identify, deter, abate, or correct situations; both routine and emergent that are within the scope of responsibility for the department, as they occur on hospital owned or controlled property.

The Security Officer I is to provide a safe and secure environment for all of UnityPoint Health-JRMC Hospital properties. Provide input in developing security procedures, which address the day to day physical security needs of the hospital. Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations; good public relations skills, including listening, providing clear explanations, accurate directions, displays a helpful attitude and answers questions in a cheerful professional manner. Builds and maintains professional customer relations with patients, visitors, staff and physicians. Work closely with and maintain good relationships with outside law enforcement agencies. Patrols the campus grounds and buildings on foot or on mobile patrol in all weather and climate conditions. Monitors persons accessing JRMC property and buildings to determine whether they are present for legitimate reasons. Communicates daily security on-duty activity to the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) for proper documentation. May be required to work as a dispatcher in the ECC if needed. Responds to emergency and routine requests for service. Documents relevant incidents, conducts investigations as appropriate, monitors security cameras and other equipment as directed. Successful completion of these duties on a regular basis contributes to the UnityPoint Health- JRMC Hospital goal of quality patient care, helping to provide for a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff. Must maintain complete confidentiality of patient/hospital information.
