Overview

The Contract Administrator serves as an integral member of the compliance team.  Key responsibilities include reviewing, revising, and drafting of provider and/or real estate contracts utilizing approved templates.  The Contract Administrator analyzes proposed contract terms, aligns operational requests, drafts and/or revises contract in coordination with the law department, and routes contract for approval. Following approvals and execution, the Contract Administrator is responsible for all documentation and maintenance of the contracts.

 

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Location: Remote - applicants preferably reside in the UnityPoint Health geography of Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Drafts contracts based on operational requests. In doing so, identify required contract terms to incorporate and any potential non-compliance.
  • Reviews proposed compensation to confirm appropriate documentation of fair market value in compliance with policies.
  • Compile supporting documentation from various departments in the preparation of contract execution.
  • Ensure contracts contain all required information in accordance with UPH Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform cursory legal and business review of documents.
  • Ensure final legal review of documents with UnityPoint Health Law Department and other appropriate individuals. 
  • Review agreements, contracts, and leases for compliance with contractual terms and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and present to the applicable leadership team review of contractual issues and other related documents.
  • Ensure that comparable compensation data and certifications are completed for all contracts, as applicable.
  • Complete review of all contracts required for integration or acquisition. Assess contract gaps and necessary terms according to standard procedures to reconcile prior to completing new contract.
  • Identify any companion contracts (e.g., lease agreement, consent memo, etc.) to execute operational leadership’s intent with the contract relationship.
  • Collaborate with the Provider Compensation Team and the Law Department to determine contractual language for applicable compensation plan.
  • Meet routinely with Market Leadership Team to discuss contract needs and coordinate integration, acquisition, and/or employment efforts.

 
Department Excellence

  • Participate in establishing and preparing team goals, standards, procedures, and instructions, which contribute to the effectiveness of the team in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Is knowledgeable of what is happening in team and the organization by attending team meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization’s intranet site.
  • Maintain an efficient and effective confidential filing system for contract-related correspondence.
  • Maintain the electronic contract compliance database.  Responsible for completeness and accuracy of the database, ensuring all contracts are scanned, evaluated, and abstracted for pertinent data elements to permit data mining and reporting.  
  • Serve as local administrator of database and provide training to other internal users as needed. 
  • Monitor database and work with the responsible parties in advance of contract expiration dates for timely notice provisions and to assure all updates are included in the current version. 
  • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff and the leadership team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.

 
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. 
  • Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. 
  • Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, health administration or related field, or equivalent work experience required.

  • Minimum of three years direct experience working with legal agreements, contracts, and real estate leases preferred. 

  • Knowledge of general legal terminology and legal principles.

  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements and legal terminology.

  • Strong computer skills and advanced experience with Microsoft Office Products. Ability to quickly learn to use and manage on-line applications. 

  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, in English. Proficient in proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. 

  • Ability to travel within and outside of the state as required.

  • Ability to work evenings & weekends, when necessary.

  • Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • General knowledge of health care business functions.
