Responsibilities

The Lead Pharmacist participates in optimizing designated pharmacy programs or operational areas to ensure efficient, compliant, and high-quality pharmaceutical services. This role is involved in developing and implementing protocols, leading program activities, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency. The position assists with staff development and education, including coordinating training activities and professional growth. The Lead Pharmacist also plays a vital role in regulatory and accreditation standards compliance.  The position will also lead student and resident learning experiences by coordinating designated rotations and serve as a preceptor when applicable.   

Qualifications

Education: B.S. Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

Experience: 

Specialty Pharmacy experience – at least 1 year.

Proficiency in navigating the electronic medical record – at least 1 year.

 

License(s)/Certification(s):  Must be licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Iowa upon hire

 

Board of Pharmacy Examiners: Must maintain current license to practice pharmacy in designated State and be in good standing with the State(s) Board of Pharmacy Examiners

 

Board Certification: Board Certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or similar body.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must possess excellent communication skills.  

Must read, write, and speak fluent English.

Must be able to interpret scientific data in a logical and coherent manner.

Must be able to logically solve problems.

Must be able to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.

Must direct and manage others.

Must be able to work well with others.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.

 

Lifting Requirements:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, pushing or pulling arm or leg controls or maintaining a production rate pace.  Light work requires physical exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work.
