Overview

Oversees critical hospital infrastructure systems under Facilities Manager direction. Expert in healthcare building automation including HVAC controls, security networks, and energy management systems. Interprets blueprints and submittals for installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of complex electro-mechanical systems. Applies specialized technical knowledge while adhering to healthcare safety protocols and standard operating procedures for all maintenance and construction activities.

Responsibilities

Building Automation Systems Specialist

· Drives implementation and management of critical building control infrastructure with expert-level technical proficiency.

 

· Independently evaluates, installs, and maintains complex automation systems while ensuring rigorous documentation and regulatory compliance.

 

· Collaborates cross-functionally with Biomedical and IT teams to integrate systems and maintain network security protocols that protect vital hospital operations.

 

 

Operational Excellence in Building Automation

· Maintains superior facility operations through expert management of building automation and security systems.

 

· Responds promptly to urgent service requests while delivering high-quality repairs that minimize disruption.

 

· Maintains meticulous documentation and regulatory compliance across all systems.

· Fosters positive relationships with patients, staff, and visitors through professional communication and service excellence.

 

· Provides technical training to team members while continuously expanding personal expertise through ongoing professional development.

 

· Maintains pristine mechanical rooms and documentation in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements.

 

· Partners with facility leadership on system improvements and emergency response protocols.

· Demonstrates initiative through self-evaluation and proactive problem-solving to enhance operational efficiency. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required - High school graduate or equivalent 
  • Preferred - Associate’s degree in industrial technologies or maintenance/trade school.

 

Experience:

  • Required - 2 years of industrial or commercial maintenance type setting. 
  • Preferred 5+ years of maintenance in industrial or commercial setting focused on troubleshooting and repair of BAS.

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Required - Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. 
  • Preferred - State of Iowa license in the field of HVAC or electrician is a plus. Universal refrigerant license required if working with any refrigerants.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Required - Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Required - Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser. .

 

Other:

  • Knowledge and use of safety equipment to maintain these systems as well as safety equipment used in health care facilities. The incumbent will work from blueprints and use and maintain hand and power tools. The position requires that the incumbent follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for construction projects, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance
