Overview

Under the supervision of an RN provides direct patient care.  Performs procedures for patients and provides technical services and support.  Decontaminates, cleans, and disinfects endoscopes, accessories and equipment utilized in endoscopic procedures.  Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, improved patient care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients with changing into procedural attire and street clothes.
  • Answers patient call lights.
  • Assists with simple procedures as defined in work area.
  • Obtains and records vital signs and height and weight.
  • Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
  • Performs procedures specific to the assigned area.
  • Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area.
  • Assures all specimens are labeled in accordance with standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.
  • Decontaminates and disinfects endoscopes and accessories using an automated endoscope reprocessor, according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Examines endoscopes, assures proper functioning and storage of endoscopes.
  • Maintains reprocessing records.
  • Responsible for coordinating routine endoscope inspection and maintenance with manufacturer per FDA guidelines.
  • Assists in routine culturing of endoscopes.
  • Performs routine cleaning on equipment.
  • Assists in department cleaning and stocking.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Certified Nursing Aid certification preferred.
  • Dept of Labor Level III (Medium) Work.
