RN - Ortho Speciality Clinic

Full Time; M-F - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Specialty Clinic Nurse is responsible for executing the day-to-day operations of the Specialty Clinic and is accountable for maintenance of quality and safety standards within the clinic. This position is the primary nurse responsible for the daily operations of the orthopedic clinic including preoperative and postoperative experiences. This position will also provide support for other specialty providers outside of orthopedics.

Clinical Excellence

• Creating and maintaining an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
• Gathering supplies and equipment for providers in the clinic.
• Restocking supplies in specialty clinic when the clinic has ended for the day.
• Monitoring of Specialty Clinic inventory and notifying appropriate individual(s) when supplies are needed.
• Assists providers by obtaining basic vital information, preparing patients for examination, treatment and minor surgical procedures.
• Facilitates the scheduling of tests, procedures or appointments for clinic patients.
• Pre-certify with insurance companies for radiology or surgical procedures, or other items ordered as necessary.
• Operates equipment and performs technical skills according to policies and standards; learns new skills and seeks assistance appropriately.
• Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient’s chart, paper or electronic.
• Collaborates with appropriate disciplines in developing coordinated outcomes and interventions; interacts with team members regarding patient progress.
• Recognizes situations (patient, staff, visitor, and physician) and significant assessment findings that require verbal or written communication and follow through to the appropriate people.
• Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the organization’s/hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
• Ensure that the Specialty Clinic is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
• Documentation is complete, clear, concise, and according to policy.
• Follow established universal precautions in the use of personal protective equipment.
• Ensure that daily and weekly tasks are completed.
• Maintain confidentiality according to established policy.
• Manage personal stress and emotions so as not to interfere in relationships and interactions with others.

Program Development

• Supports quality improvement processes for the clinic as identified in collaboration with Clinic Administrator and Quality team.
• Update and develop policies for the Specialty Clinic as needed.

Performance Improvement

• Participates in identifying and developing the performance improvement focus and criteria, as well as gathering and reporting the information.
• Assumes accountability and responsibility for attendance and timely completion of competencies, mandatory programs, unit specific requirements
• Writes goals annually in collaboration with Clinic Administrator, goals demonstrate initiative, reflect unit or performance needs, and are specific and measurable.
• Work with Clinic Administrator on process improvement changes.

Required: 

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Current acute hospital experience within the past 5 years.
• RN current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.
• Must possess and maintain current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter certification as outlined per policy.
• Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Preferred:

• Clinic/medical office experience
• Experience in providing care for orthopedic patients.
