Younker 8 cares for a variety of acute care patients, specializing in respiratory diagnoses, diabetic ketoacidosis, and acute or chronic medical conditions. The unit partners the Physician Internal Medicine Residency Program and is involved in many new patient care initiatives. • Integrates the UnityPoint Health Des Moines Nursing Expectations of Performance in all aspects of care delivery and professional practice.  
• Manages daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital’s budgetary guidelines.   
• Provides clinical leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility.  
• Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary team work.

• Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluate, disciplines, and terminate staff with appropriate input.  Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.  
• Represents UPHDM in a professional manner.  Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.  
• Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment.  
• Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital.  
• Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary to problem solve.  

Education: Bachelor's degree. BSN preferred.

Experience: Two years experience as registered nurse. Experience in specialty area preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s): Current Iowa license as a registered nurse. Current BCLS (CPR). Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:  Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds.  Knowledge of basic computer skills.
