Responsibilities

  • Assesses and monitors total physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of adult, adolescent and neonate patients.
  • With input/collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, develops and maintains with the patient/significant other, an individualized, professionally modified plan of care reflective of changing needs/goals as determined by evaluating the patient/significant other response to the plan of care.
  • Provides nursing care in accordance with nursing standards and the adult, adolescent and neonate patient's plan of care.
  • With input and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team assesses and plans for discharge needs, evaluates adult, adolescent and neonate patients and significant others educational needs and initiates and implements appropriate teaching protocols or makes appropriate referrals.
  • Documents nursing care consistent with documentation guidelines.
  • Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Participates in unit operations, demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of Nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.
  • Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, standards development and review, unit/hospital/nursing committees and other related activities.
  • Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor & Delivery (L & D), Postpartum, Well-Baby Nursery, and or Intensive Care Nursery.
  • Demonstrates ability to circulate for cesarean section and to provide post-operative care (L & D Staff).
  • Demonstrates ability to circulate and/or scrub for vaginal delivery (L & D Staff).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring.
  • Identifies Fetal Heart Rate pattern and intervenes appropriately (L & D Staff).
  • Demonstrates positive customer relation skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of epidural management (L&D Staff).
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates and fosters cooperative relations between all departments of the organization. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing required.
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa or applicable compact state. Must be licensed in state of residence.
  • CPR, ACLS (L&D Staff), NRP, STABLE (Nursery Staff), Fetal Monitoring (L&D Staff), 2 hours annual stroke education required
