The Exercise Specialist is responsible for conducting personalized fitness evaluations, including risk identification, and implementation and coordination of individual and group exercise programs for individuals with chronic conditions. The exercise specialist documents and explains results of exercise to both patients and providers and works in conjunction with other health professionals who provide rehabilitation programs.

Coordinate and implement exercise programs (group and individual) in collaboration with providers, community partners, and rehabilitation professionals.
Maintain a safe and clean environment, including daily equipment checks, disinfecting after sessions, and ensuring proper cleaning tools.
Serve as a point of contact for Cancer Wellness Exercise Program participants, coordinating care and resources, and communicating patient needs to the care team.
Assess and address developmental, physical, and psychological needs, ensuring age-appropriate care and support.
Communicate patient concerns and progress with the Wellness team, care managers, social workers, and providers, recommending necessary services.
Demonstrate proficiency in exercise testing, prescription, and program development, ensuring effective outcomes across various conditions.
Collect and report exercise data and outcomes clearly to both patients and providers.
Collaborate with the Cancer Wellness team to monitor program quality, maintain data tracking systems, and support policy development and evaluation.
Coordinates care by serving as a point-of-contact for survivors and families utilizing the Cancer Wellness Exercise Program
Pursue professional development in chronic conditions and relevant certifications.
Partner with local organizations to expand community-based chronic condition services and participate in educational events, assessing needs through surveys and feedback.
Research and support cancer wellness and survivorship grants, assisting in successful implementation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
| Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field
Must possess a current license to practice in the state of Iowa, if applicable to the specialty. | Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)
Chronic Disease specialty training
Cancer Exercise Specialist experience

Experience:
| Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with individuals with chronic conditions including but not limited to cancer, diabetes and arthritis; including human physiology and anatomy
Experience working both independently and in a team atmosphere. | Experience working with the oncology field preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):
| Must maintain current CPR Certification
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. |

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Sound knowledge of strength and conditioning equipment.
Vast knowledge of strength and conditioning protocols, training modalities and testing standards.
Experience organizing multiple tasks and working with diverse groups of people.
Ability to work independently and self-direct work activities.
Detail oriented and able to meet established deadlines.
