We are seeking a skilled Device Technician II to join our Cardiology Clinic. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical background in cardiac device technology who enjoys patient interaction and clinical work.
The Device Technician II provides direct and indirect diagnostic services to patients being treated with cardiac arrhythmias that have implanted medical devices, utilizing diagnostic equipment. This position requires application of clinical, cooperative, and independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to complete the variety of technical procedures:
• Performs device management in accordance with clinic policy and procedure.
• Accurately acquires and interrogates pacemaker, implantable cardioverter defibrillator, and implantable loop recorder data from device programmers and remote transmission sources.
• Provides accurate assessments of acquired findings from device interrogations by having a strong foundation of understanding in cardiac pathology and electrophysiology as it relates to device technology.
• Directs findings from device interrogations to the appropriate health care professional in accordance with established policy/protocols.
• Performs changes to programmed settings as directed by the physician and in accordance with established policy/protocols in order to optimize device function consistent with the patient’s clinical requirements.
• Accurately documents and triages findings, changes, and patient response in the patient record; routine and those transmitted with alerts.
• Responsible for contacting patients in regard to any company recalls and facilitating appropriate measures for any further changes in the device that may be required.
• Draft procedural reporting for final physician interpretation. Initiate billing for procedures performed.
• Provides continuity of care for the device patient by following scheduling guidelines as outlined in established device clinic policy/protocols.
• Maintains knowledge and skills associated with technological advances in pacing and defibrillation therapy and demonstrates competency.
• Provides individualized education for patients and their families, recognizing and adapting to any special needs.
Education:
• Graduate of a RN/LPN accredited program OR Graduate of an Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic level or equivocal program OR device industry trained representative required).
• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise or Health Science preferred.
Experience:
• 3 years of experience in cardiology is preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
• Professional Licensure for State of Iowa for scope of practice.
• BCLS and Mandatory Reporter.
• Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) preferred.
