Provides classroom leadership and planning as well as childcare services which meets the development needs of each child. Consistently communicates with each child’s parents to ensure that quality care is being given and the child/family needs are being met. Works effectively with other team members. The lead teacher follows hospital, department, and Department of Human Services policies and procedures. Successful performance contributes to a positive work environment for UnityPoint Health employees.

Responsibilities

Quality Care

  • Interacts appropriately and positively with children, participating in and encouraging children’s play.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly child oriented, safe environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Curriculum Coordination

  • Responsible for curriculum planning for the assigned area.
  • Reviews monthly curriculum plans for the teachers and staff in the assigned area.
  • Plans and implements age/developmentally appropriate programs for assigned group.

Performance Improvement

  • Supervises the work of the teachers and teacher assistants in their assigned area.
  • Overseas all family conferences for the area.
  • Evaluates, monitors and maintains records on children’s participation and development.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license

Must be willing to complete all DHS required trainings within 90 days.
