Overview

The Work Well Drug Screening Assistant is responsible for implementing and maintaining policies and procedures in the drug screening program and to ensure the delivery of drug screening services to the St. Luke’s Work Well Solutions clients.

Responsibilities

Is aware of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department or hospital administrative staff. 

Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity. 

  • Performs drug screen collection, consistently ensuring forms are filled out completely and accurately to avoid recollections or rejection of  specimens.
  • Performs breath alcohol testing, consistently ensuring forms are filled out completely and accurately.
  • Alert to potentially hazardous situations.
  • Maintains positive relationship with members of administrative and management groups, medical staff and Work Well Solution clients
  • Communicates with other members of the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Participates in change and assists with implementation of new ideas.
  • Participates in innovative services to enhance the environment for patients, family’s visitors.
  • Helps support and works within the budget.
  • Applies current cost containment concepts.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance.
  • Complies with State and Federal and local laws.
  • Complies with voluntary accreditation as accepted by the hospital. (JCAHO, CAP, AABB, NRC, CARF).
  • Understanding of the Iowa Code and the federal regulation codes for drug screening.
  • Assist with MRO responsibilities as directed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Medical Assistant Certification or previous medical office experience is preferred but not required.   

 

Qualifications/Experience

  • Skilled, organized and efficient in performing required drug screen and breath alcohol collections and calibration.
  • Self directed and detail oriented in a lab setting.
  • Drug Screen collection
  • Breath Alcohol Testing.
  • Collection of venipuncture specimens with skill and compassion.
  • CPR training.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to calibrate equipment in the lab.
