Supervises the day to day operations of Emergency Transport Services and/or Life Flight utilizing quality, cost effective patient care, and safety principles. Supervises, supports and develops transport services teams. Consistently utilizes and provides leadership to others in a holistic approach to excellence in patient care contributing to a high level of satisfaction from patients and families as well as internal and external customers.Consistently demonstrates commitment to the highest standard of safety for both patients and program operations. Provides leadership to others to attain this standard.Serves as a resource person to staff, both clinically and administratively. Maintains a global perspective as a basis for decision making. Provides feedback to appropriate management regarding staff, clinical, and operational situations as necessary. Contributes to an environment that promotes staff empowerment.

Responsibilities

·Supervises the day to day operations of Transport Services

·Manages the relationship with outside partners and vendors

·Process feedback and dialogue within UPH-DM, affiliates, referring facilities and organizations.

·Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, EMTALA, FAA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare and aviation.

·Supports the Manager in the daily operation of assigned duties and/or functions of the transport teams while utilizing a team-oriented approach to duties and focusing on continuous improvement.

·Assists director in overseeing the budgetary monitoring, evaluation and action planning to ensure departmental budget compliance

·Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations

·Develops, implements, and monitors processes for the transport teams including but not limited to; marketing, education, safety, Quality Improvement

·Continues professional development by involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking, research and industry best practices.

·Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary team work.

·Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

·Maintains clinical skills by assisting in working in the department as needed

·Responsible to maintain current professional expertise.Promotes personal and professional growth among co-workers.

·Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job and utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments.

·Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, CAMTS and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding air ambulance.

·Leads and directs all safety initiatives and programs.

·Required to have knowledge of all applicable FAA regulations regarding Air Medical Services.

·Maintains awareness of applicable laws and/or regulations affecting patient care.Remains current on law/regulation changes, recognizes implications to the organization and recommends courses of action to ensure compliance.

·Assists in the development of policy/procedure and guidelines for safe, efficient operation of Life Flight as well as guidelines for clinical practice using research and evidence-based practice.

·Assists in developing annual budget, authorizes expenditures according to the signature authorization policy and monitors performance; takes corrective action when appropriate to maintain control of financial resources.

·Researches and recommends short and long term strategies to meet goals in both clinical and operational excellence.Assists with the achievement of objectives and necessary modifications for attainment of goals.

·Interviews, orients, trains, schedules, evaluates, and disciplines staff with appropriate input.Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.

·Represents Unity Point Health and Transport Services in a professional manner.Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.

·Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital.

·Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary to problem solve.

·Demonstrates the ability to be fair and impartial while maintaining a professional relationship.

·Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served by Life Flight).

·Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.

·Maintains all competencies and meets all standards required of all flight crew members.

·Provides leadership in fostering collaboration between specialty teams, between crew and vendor employees, and with both internal and external customers.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of Accredited Nursing or Paramedic Program

Bachelor’s Degree preferred

 

Experience:

Five years experience as a Transport Nurse or Flight Paramedic

Previous Supervisory experience preferred

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current Iowa RN license or Iowa Paramedic Certification

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

TPATC (preferred)

CFRN (required within 2 years of hire

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds.

Knowledge of basic computer skills

 

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position
