Allen College seeks applications for a full-time,12-month non-tenured faculty position for its hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program to start August 2025. The faculty will be hired at a rank commensurate with their credentials, qualifications, and experience. The DPT program uses a combination of online and on-campus learning experiences. The curricular delivery is conducted via synchronous or asynchronous learning experiences and onsite lab immersions. The hybrid learning model allows faculty to live remotely from campus. However, DPT faculty must be able to travel and stay in Waterloo, IA for designated periods each semester.

 

Ideal candidates will have clinical and teaching expertise in neuromuscular content and/or pediatrics.  Highly desirable to have an APTA certification of NCS or PCS.

 

Faculty are members of the Allen College Faculty Organization Committee at large and are appointed to other faculty committees. Faculty are involved in the development and evaluation of the program and of the students. Faculty are actively involved in teaching, guidance and academic advising of students, and reports to the DPT Program Director and the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

 

In compliance with the Clery Act, Allen College publishes an Annual Security report containing three previous years of crime statistics, institutional policies concerning campus safety, and a fire safety report. Responsibilities

  1. Participates in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of individual courses and the overall curriculum within the College.
  2. Participates in faculty development, governance and College decision making.
  3. Participates in faculty organization committees.
  4. Promotes and maintains collaborative relationships between College and clinical agencies.
  5. Teaching:
  • Classroom and clinical preparation, instruction, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Coordination and supervision of students' clinical experiences consistent with established standards of care and course/program objectives.
  • Other activities directly related to the academic program.
  1. Serves as academic advisor for students.
  2. Participates in professional activity and community service.
  3. Participates in scholarly activities (may include the following):
  • On-going study and research to develop expertise and maintain proficiency and growth in one's field of professional specialization.
  • Writing, editing, reviewing texts and articles.
  • Serving as a consultant in the profession.
  • Attendance and participation in meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional associations.
  1. Participates in the coordination, advisement, and supervision of student organization and other activities of the College not related to academics.
  2. Demonstrates a commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of Allen College and adheres to College policies, procedures and guidelines.
  3. Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health FOCUS Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  4. Works effectively with the daily mental and physical stresses of the job which includes, but not limited to meeting deadlines, attending meetings, completing compliance requirements, meeting and working with staff, faculty, students and the public.

Qualifications

  1. Physical therapy degree and license in any U.S. jurisdiction if applying to teach physical therapy content.
  2. Terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD, DSc), or equivalent is preferred.  Candidates currently pursuing their terminal degree encouraged to apply.
  3. Minimal degree and license (if appropriate) in another discipline if applying to teach other content (e.g. orthotics, pharmacology, wound care, etc.).
  4. Demonstrate contemporary expertise in an area of teaching responsibility.
  5. Four years teaching full-time on a higher education level or above and clinical experience in area of teaching is preferred.
  6. Three years full-time clinical experience.
  7. Demonstrated ability to do scholarly work as demonstrated by professional publications or presentations.
  8. Evidence of involvement in professional activity and community service.
