Overview

The behavioral health Mental Health Tech assists in patient care throughout the behavioral health unit.  Duties include assisting patients with their ADL’s, completing 15 minute checks on patients, assisting with group programming, documentation of care and treatments done and observes patients for safety and condition change and reports to appropriate staff.

Responsibilities

Delivery of Care

  • Assists patients with ADL’s according to hospital procedures, reports all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse in charge of patient.
  • Completes 15 minute checks to maintain safety of patient and unit.
  • Assists with the check in process including getting initial vital signs and completing admission paperwork.
  • Assists with restocking of rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment. Follows all established infection control policies, and recognizes role in providing safety to the patient.

Documentation

  • Documents vital signs, weights, activity, intake and outputs, and ADL care given to patient in computer.
  • Assists with the check in process including getting initial vital signs and completing admission paperwork.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Education:

 

 

 

·  High School Diploma or Equivalent

 

Experience:

 

 

 

 

·  Previous mental health experience is preferred. 

 

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

· Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 30 days of hire.

· Must be CPI/MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment (renewal every 2 years).

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

 

 

 

· Basic computer knowledge

· Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

· Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.

· Ability to move and lift patients and use appropriate equipment.

· Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.

· Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written).

 

Other:

 

 

 

· Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
