Robert Young Center is excited to offer a clinical practicum opportunity for PMHNP students seeking to enhance their skills in delivering high-quality mental health care.  Under the supervision of the clinical preceptor (Licensed Psychiatrist and/or PMHNP) and administrative supervision of the Director of Outpatient Services, the PMHNP student works with patients across the lifespan in a variety of clinical settings to assess, diagnose, and manage mental health conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop proficiency in mental health assessments, psychiatric evaluations, and other clinical tools to establish accurate diagnosis.
  • Build effective treatment plans with patients and their support systems.
  • Learn how to implement evidence-based psychopharmacological treatments.
  • Gain skills in psychotherapeutic techniques (cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing).
  • Work collaboratively with a variety of healthcare workers such as psychiatrists, PMHNPs, nurses, therapists, and care coordinators. 
  • Document patient encounters accurately and maintain confidentiality per HIPPA and state mental health codes.
  • Provide culturally sensitive care consistent with all ethical and legal standards, including patient confidentiality and informed consent.
  • Develop the competencies required for degree completion and independent practice. 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited PMHNP program.
  • Completion of foundational program coursework in advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, and health assessment.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to commit to the practicum schedule and clinical responsibilities.
