Overview

RN Lead - Resource/Float Pool

Allen Hospital

Full-time, 12 hrs 3P-3A & 7P-7A

 

Provides support to the House Supervisor in the coordination of nursing practice and hospital activities. Assists with managing the day-to-day operations of the organization. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. Supports the development of nurses with the following responsibilities: rounding, responding to requests from nurses for emergent or high-risk procedures, mentoring and providing support to nurses in their work environment, and providing real time education to nurses.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the House Supervisor in the direction, coordination, and delegation of patient care.
  • Assists with managing staffing needs, bed placement, and the daily operations of patient care.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to assist with resolving complex unit situations, such as patient complaints and crises as they occur within the unit.
  • Evaluates and guides staff through coaching and immediate feedback. Demonstrates the ability to fairly and consistently interpret, apply and follow personnel policies/procedures.
  • Assists with the review of staffing and effectively communicates with others to ensure staffing requirements are met.
  • Assists with the orientation program of newly hired team members.
  • Provides support to the House Supervisor in rounding, responding to emergency situations, or other needs, as needed.
  • Provides assistance to the nursing units to meet patient needs.
  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • One year of nursing experience in acute care setting. 2 or more years of nursing experience in acute care setting. Previous leadership experience.
  • Current license in the state of Iowa or meets criteria established by Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to maintain current professional expertise.
  • Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
