The Clinical Informaticist at UPH Grinnell focuses upon meeting the electronic medical record (EMR) end user IT related needs for UnityPoint Health Des Moines’ hospital based and ambulatory areas/departments. This role ensures support of the EMR and other clinical and nonclinical systems as assigned related to adoption, implementation, support, optimization, change management, communication, issue management, business continuity, and downtime recovery. The Clinical Informaticist will work directly with all levels within UPH DM in support of strategic initiatives and patient experience in collaboration with UPH IT resources.
· Responsible to master specific EPIC applications and UPH-DM workflows. Teach the application(s) to others within the organization following the standardized and best practice curriculum
· Identifies, issues and opportunities within the EMR, seeks approval for enhancement requests, and assists in the prioritization and implementation of these system changes.
· Collaborates with UPH IT, physicians and clinical staff to insure EMR implementations are optimized based on clinical workflow
· Effective communication with leadership and end users to ensure smooth implementation of new functional elements, applications, and major releases.
· Understands and addresses the impact of the EMR on other clinical applications and operations
· Develops departmental operational and management backup procedures for business continuity, and downtime recovery.
· Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of training procedures and materials for assigned application
· Assist in the schedule and coordination of training resources across UPH-DM.
· Provides training for clinical staff following UPH standardized curriculum
· Monitors training progress and reports critical issues as they arise.
· Utilizes reporting resources to oversee and assess EHR competency levels of staff, physicians, and advanced practitioners and recommend action to strengthen performance and increase efficiency.
· Conducts audits and runs reports of the documentation system and to ensure standards are being met.
· Facilitates the development of reporting tools for patient care monitoring.
· Participates in quality control reviews of database and assures consistency and accuracy of data being collected.
EDUCATION: Completion of acccredited RN nursing program requierd. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Clinical background required with minimum 2 years experience in hospital, physician practice or education training role required. Healthcare related IT experience with responsibilities in area of project management preferred.
LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS(S): Valid state of Iowa RN nursing license required. Must achieve EPIC Credentialed Trainer status within 4-6 months of hire for assigned EPIC Modules.
