A registered polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the department manager to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A registered polysomnographic technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a polysomnographic technician. The registered polysomnographic technologist is credentialed in sleep technology by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).

Responsibilities

  • Performs polysomnograms according to standards of department
  • Administers oxygen and/or nasal CPAP/BiPAP according to department procedure. Instructs patient on the proper use and care of the equipment.
  • Writes a comprehensive report on findings of the polysomnogram to include treatment levels (if used)
  • Collects and/or reviews medical, historical, and medication information in order to perform the appropriate study prescribed by the physician

Qualifications

Required:

  • 6 months of sleep center experience
  • Board certified by the Board of Registration of Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT)
  • Iowa License in Polysomnographic Technology under the regulations set forth in Iowa House File 203.
