Join Our Team as a Surgical Technologist First Assistant! Become an essential member of our surgical team, providing advanced intraoperative support under the supervision of the surgeon to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care. In this role, you will assist with critical technical functions including exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, and suturing, while anticipating the needs of the surgeon and maintaining a focus on patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.
Our Surgical Services span three Quad Cities campuses and include 16 operating rooms, two dedicated open-heart suites, and two specialized urology rooms. You’ll gain experience across a wide range of surgical specialties, including cardiothoracic, vascular, robotic, orthopedic, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, urology, podiatry, and cataract procedures. Assures correct patient identification and assists the circulating nurse with patient care.
Maintains knowledge of instrumentation, procedures, and sterile techniques to effectively assist in surgical cases.
Provides technical support during surgery, including tissue handling, cauterization, retracting, suturing, and assisting with drainage systems.
Prepares the surgical room with necessary supplies and equipment and maintains a safe, sterile environment throughout procedures.
Applies post-operative dressings, casts, or splints as directed.
Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and commitment to ongoing education and safe operating procedures.
Adheres to UnityPoint Health standards, regulatory requirements, and departmental compliance guidelines, maintaining current licenses and certifications.
