We’re seeking a Lead Respiratory Therapist to join our team! The Lead is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the unit to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care. This position provides leadership and direction to respiratory care staff, including scheduling, staffing, and professional development. The Lead collaborates with physicians, offices, and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in alignment with established respiratory care standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership for respiratory care staff, directing workflow, delegating duties, and ensuring safe, compliant patient care 
  • Oversee daytoday clinical operations, resolve complex issues, enforce safety standards, and ensure adherence to physician orders and policies 
  • Evaluate and coach staff, support hiring and onboarding, lead training and competency reviews, and promote professional growth 
  • Manage staffing levels, assignments, charge capture accuracy, and efficient use of time and resources across the department 
  • Serve as a clinical expert, educating staff on new equipment, updated practices, and respiratory care standards 
  • Deliver advanced respiratory care across inpatient and outpatient settings, including ventilator management, neonatal care, and emergency response 
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot complex respiratory equipment, ensuring proper function, safety, and availability 
  • Act as a resource for equipment operations, monitor rental usage, and support quality improvement, patient safety, and interdisciplinary collaboration 

Qualifications

Education:  

  • Graduate of accredited program and eligible for registry as an RRT is required 

Experience:  

  • Must have at least three (3) years of Respiratory Care experience, at least two (2) of which must be in direct clinical care. This may be waived in certain circumstances by the Respiratory Care department leadership 

License(s)/Certification(s): 

  • Required Upon Hire: 
    • Must have current licensure in good standing to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in State(s) of Practice. 
      • Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR)  
      •  Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH)  
      •  Iowa Board of Respiratory Care and Polysomnography (IBRC)  
      • Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (WIDSPS) 
    • Registered Resp Therapy Technician by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) 
  • Required within 90 Days of Hire 
    • Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care  
    • Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care 
    • Must possess and maintain one of the following through American Heart Association (AHA) 
      • Basic Life Support (BLS)  
      • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification  
    • Required within 1 year of Hire if specializing in pediatric/neonatal critical care medicine 
      • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) 
      • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
