Position: RN Pediatric Quality Coordinator
Location: Methodist Hospital
Part-time, Benefited
Hours: 24 hours M-F as Pediatric Quality Coordinator, 12 hours bedside RN for a total of 36 hours. No weekend or holiday requirements.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to pediatric patients through the application of the nursing process and quality improvement

QUALITY OF CARE: plays a pivotal role in interdisciplinary oversight of quality patient care on unit. · Ensures that patient care outcomes are clearly documented for all patients. · Works in conjunction with ED Nurse Manager and ED Medical Director to ensure compliance with and documentation of the required pediatric continuing education of all ED staff · Recognizes trends in the delivery of patient care on the unit and discusses with Nurse Manager · Monitors current patient care practices, patient satisfaction, and is alert to areas of improvement · Successfully manages clinical crisis situations · Assists in meeting employee satisfacion goals · Assists in unit specific PI process to achieve best practice · Participates in gathering data on PI initiatives, including chart review · Participates in determining root causes · Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating action plans · Serves on unit operations councils, Pediatric Interdisciplinary, ED Interdisciplinary, Pediatric Task Team, Region II EMSC meetings · Ensures that pediatric emergency medical care is included in the ED quality improvement program and reported to the hospital quality committee. · Participates in planning, implementing, analyzing, and evaluating pediatric monitors at the hospital, regional, and/or state level · Establishs/facilitates/coordinates/participates in multidisciplinary quality activites to ensure that clinical indicators and /or outcomes for care have been identified | 30% |
COORDINATION OF CARE: Demonstrates effective time management and leadership skills · Assists with the implementation of educational programs/orientation needs for patient care personnel · Assesses educational needs of the nursing service staff · Works with nursing leadership to prioritze and monitor educational programs · Assists with evaluation of orientation programs and implements improvements · Delivers nursing care when necessary · Mentors developing registered nurses · Assure inclusion of pediatric continuing education with the ED; promoting inservices, addressing policies, guidelines, injury, diseases, medications, and equipment specific to pediatric ED patients · Accepts other assigned projects, teams or committees · Maintains expertise in areas of teaching · Demonstrates advanced assessment skills, knowledge of equipment and supplies used within the department | 20% |
1. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: Acts as clinical liaison between nursing, healthcare providers and physicians to communicate interdisciplinary approach to patient care needs. · Assists with communicating unit information and clarifies issues as needed · Communicates any problems to the Nurse Manager that need further attention timely · Demonstrates good listening skills with staff members and physicians · Accepts issues, challenges, and concerns in a mature and professional manner · Demonstrates good leadership skills in leading a project or committee · Develops good communication among team members and customers · Leads team/committee with minimal supervision · Capable of making prepared presentations · Uses good written and oral communication · Provides quality information to the Illinois Departement of Public Health upon request | 20% |
2. TEAMWORK: Supports a positive, collaborative, professional work environment. · Functions as role model for staff in embracing the concept of continuous improvement · Functions as role model for use of comfort holds and appropriate pediatric interventions along with Child Life Services · Assists in planning and participates in pediatric emergency simulation · Assists in clinical evaluation of pediatric patients in ancillary areas · Works collaboratively with the Hospital EMS coordinator to identify and coordinate reviews of selected prehospital provider transported pediatric cases and provide feedback to EMS as needed · Represents pediatric emergency patient interests in the hospital on various multidisciplinary committees. | 20% |
Basic UPH Performance Criteria · Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. · Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. · Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. · Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. · Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. · Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. | 10% |

Education:
| Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing |

Experience: |
| 3-5 years of experience in/with intermediate or critical care. Demonstrated excellence in patient care and interpersonal skills with both patients/families and colleagues preferred. |
License(s)/Certification(s):
| Current licensure in good standing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire/start date.
| PALS or ENCP Instructor preferred. |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
| Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser. Multicultural sensitivity. Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions. |

| Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position. Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities/hospitals. Required to drive your own vehicle for business purposes. |
