Under the immediate supervision of the pharmacy manager, the staff pharmacist will process, fill, check and dispense medications to the customers.  The staff pharmacist will supervise the technicians in absence of the manager.  This position will check for drug interactions, therapy gaps, interact with providers and staff and will serve as a resource  regarding medications.  This position is responsible for Med to Bed follow up as well as MTM-medication therapy management.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

• Customer service: Staff pharmacists are expected to demonstrate exceptional customer service.  Always greet the customer with a smile and in a timely manner.  Keep them updated on the progress of their prescriptions
• Prescription verification: Staff pharmacists are responsible for verifying each prescription for its accuracy, correct medication being dispensed, legal requirements and compatability with the customer’s other medications.  Staff pharmacists will follow the 3 point rule when checking a prescription.
• Resource: Staff pharmacists need to be available for questions and/or concerns about medications for the customers, technicians, nursing staff and providers.  They need to find the answers to all questions in a timely manner.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must be a graduate of an approved College of Pharmacy with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD degree.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Possess a comprehensive knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice, sterile compounding, and data processing systems. The ability to work well under periods of continued stress is also necessary. Must interact well with people, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATION: Must be a Registered/Licensed Pharmacist in the States of Illinois and Iowa. New graduates will be classified as a Graduate Pharmacist until registration is obtained and will perform the duties of a Pharmacist under the immediate supervision of a Registered Pharmacist.
