Full Time Benefits - Day Shift 



The Exercise Specialist performs work of moderate difficulty in development of exercise prescriptions and in the exercise therapy sessions and supervise pulmonary patients during pulmonary rehab sessions. Shall also calibrate and maintain the exercise equipment and educate personnel and participants of its usage.

TECHNICAL/ADMINISTRATIVE/CLINICAL: (Total Weight of 100) Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.

  • Develops and updates exercise prescriptions for adult and geriatric patients in all 3 phases of rehabilitation. Demonstrates competence  in the administration of age appropriate care.
  • Assists in the collection of data during graded exercise testing, including blood pressures, body composition data, grip strength, pulmonary function, rated perceived exertion (RPE), and signs and symptoms.
  • Monitors patients for disproportionate responses to exercise prescription which would indicate need for termination of exercise session and notification of physician.
  • Acts as a consultant to the patient needing instruction in proper  body mechanics and musculoskeletal injury.
  • Assists in cardiac evaluations of participants.
  • Assists with patient, spouse, and family intervention and education.
  • Works with Cardiac Rehabilitation team to lead a safe and effective exercise session consisting of appropriate levels of flexibility, strength, and endurance activities.
  • Plans and educates patients regarding home exercise programs.
  • Maintains patient records and documents per policy and procedure manual.


EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Twelve months experience in Cardiac Rehabilitation with strong technical skills, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Bachelor of Science degree in exercise physiology or related field required but Master of Science degree preferred in exercise physiology or related field.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Good knowledge, specialized degree or certification in cardiovascular clinical specialty with strong emphasis on cardiac exercises, conditioning, exercise prescriptions, and equipment used in the program.


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Current CPR certification. ACLS certification preferred. American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist certification preferred.
