The UnityPoint Health (UPH) Analytics team is responsible for enabling clinical, operational, and financial outcomes improvement through consultative partnerships and the use of data and analytics. The team members are leaders in transforming UPH into a data-informed, continuous-improvement organization with highly reliable and sustainable results.


As a part of the Analytics team, the Analytics Associate completes analyses and develops analytics solutions using a variety of data sources and analytics and visualization tools. Working as part of a team of analytics professionals, the Analytics Associate ensures that timely, accurate and relevant information is available to inform decision-making, support business operations and improve clinical outcomes. The team will leverage design thinking, lean startup and agile, and are customer-led in their product development approach.

Analytics Development & Support

  • Commit to delivering objective, unbiased analytics solutions that support the mission of UnityPoint Health.
  • Aid in the development of analytics solutions that are solution-focused, customer-led, and built with standard tools and processes including scoping documentation, narrative and viz guidelines, and data governance standards.
  • Make data a joy to use in decision-making through the creation of visualizations and user interfaces grounded in design-thinking, using UX studies and observations to guide software development.
  • Inspire your peers to do their best work by establishing a culture of innovation, communication, and trust through design sessions, code reviews, and other open feedback.
  • Build a working knowledge of core data sources and healthcare operations to accurately and efficiently analysis findings in a meaningful and understandable manner.
  • Provide project status updates, feedback, and escalate issues when appropriate.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Business Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science or related field.
  • Equivalent experience is at least 2 years working in an analytics or healthcare operations setting that includes demonstrated efforts to drive improvements using data and analytics methodologies and techniques.
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Business Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science or related field preferred


  • Required - Writing queries with SQL or other querying tools or Business intelligence visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)
  • 1 or more years of education and experience focused on using data to improve outcomes and decision-making.
  • Functioning effectively in a team environment working towards common development goals.
  • Must demonstrate experience as an excellent oral and written communicator and exhibit excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of operational, financial and quality measures.
  • Must be flexible and open to incorporating the use of new technologies, reporting tools and solutions to deliver the best results to the business.
  • Preferred: 
    • Preference given to applicants with experience in analytics, healthcare, healthcare analytics, actuarial science, data science or related field.
    • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated experience using data to improve clinical, operational and financial outcomes.
    • Preference given to applicants with experience in:
    • Healthcare analytics solution development, including design, implementation, and support
    • Competency with SQL or other querying languages
    • Visualization development


Exposure, either through coursework or work experience (1-2 years), to:

  • Communication to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Scripting in the R or Python ecosystems
  • Healthcare operations
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access.
  • Requires the ability to synthesize data using Excel and similar tools.
  • Ability to continuously learn and adopt new methods and technologies
  • Preferred:
    • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated examples of synthesizing data and using visualization tools in the presentation of data and information.
    • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams.
    • Preference given to applicants with demonstrated writing and verbal communication skills in presenting complex concepts and recommendations to a diverse knowledge-based audience.
