The Program Director will inspire and cultivate academic excellence. Organizes, administers, reviews, develops, and assures effectiveness of the medical laboratory science and phlebotomy programs. Oversees ongoing program accreditation and assures effective program operations. Participates with the financial budget process.  Provides didactic and clinical education as assigned based on rank and credentials. Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.

Teaching and Professionalism

• Provides didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction for students as assigned.
• Monitor student performance and provides assistance when needed.
• Update course materials on an ongoing basis.
• Selects course materials, instructional aids, and learning experiences.
• Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies in didactic and clinical teaching.
• Maintains student competencies, evaluations, and records.
• Assists with academic and personal advising/counseling of students.
• Participates in assessment of student learning and college effectiveness.
• Communicates appropriately and professionally when working with the students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Fulfills all duties and responsibilities appropriate to assigned rank.

Scholarship

• Participates in scholarly activities (see Guideline 7 of College Resource Manual for examples).
• Participates in community service.

Service

• Participates in service (See Guideline 7 of College Resource Manual for examples).

Program Assessment & Accreditation

• Assumes leadership role in program assessment, implementation, evaluation, and revision to assure program effectiveness, quality, and congruence with college and program accreditation standards and goals.
• Responsible for curriculum planning and development.
• Completes annual reports and any required supplemental reports for NAACLS in a timely manner.
• Develops program policies and objectives to meet the NAACLS standards for the Medical Laboratory Science and Phlebotomy programs.
• Complies with NAACLS standards and other regulatory agencies.
• Monitors student outcomes and program needs using this data to recommend initiatives and activities designed to promote student success

Administrative

• Development of program budget and monitoring of program expenses.
• Facilitates departmental and program advisory meetings.
• Attendance at department, college, and assigned committee meetings.
• Works effectively with meeting deadlines.
• Regular and consistent contact with students, faculty, and program personnel.
• Coordinates programs and services with program faculty/staff and other college personnel.
• Completes other duties as assigned by the Academic Dean, Provost, or President.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria         

• Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
• Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
• Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
• Practices and reflects knowledge of HLC, HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
• Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
• Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.  Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
