Under the general supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager, responsible for decontamination, disinfection, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of reusable patient care medical devices, supplies, instruments and equipment for the Operating Room and ancillary departments throughout the hospital. Maintains all sterilization equipment and documentation in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions for use, AAMI, AORN, and JACO.

Decontamination · Ensure safe handling, compliance with all regulatory protocols throughout the decontam process according to manufactures instructions for use, policy, and procedures · Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment while handling and disposing of hazardous materials and sharp objects according to policy and procedures · Ensure vendor compliance for delivery and managing of equipment/instrumentation · Performs and documents efficacy of equipment and chemicals in accordance to manufactures instructions for use · Accountable for identifying manual and/or mechanical cleaning, proper positioning, sorting, disassembling · Ability to visually insect for bioburden removal · Ability to scan instruments to capture trays placement within the sterile processing stages · Accountable for properly loading instruments and selecting appropriate cycles · Accountable for precise dilution requirements for all chemicals, including monitoring temperature and time values | 40% | |
Prep and Pack/Assembly · Accountable for unloading instruments from washer disinfector adhering to proper work-flow patterns, displaying extreme caution to hot surfaces and sharp safety while displaying proper body mechanics · Ability to scan instruments to capture trays placement within the sterile processing stages · Ability to assign instrument trays rendering accountability throughout the sterile processing stages · Accountable for preventative maintenance, functionality, cleanliness, quantity, and containment on all reusable medical devices, supplies, and instruments in accordance to manufactures instructions for use, AAMI, AORN, JACO · Accountable for identifying correct contents for tray make-up, proper placement, organization, and identifying correct chemical integrator · Accountable for proper containment of completed tray (e.g., wrap, peel pack, rigid container) · Accountable for proper sterilization method and placement of completed tray · Ability to operate several pieces of equipment (e.g., heat sealers, insulations, leak, conductivity testers, and AER) | 40% | |
Sterilization/Distribution · Performs and documents on efficacy and validation of all equipment in accordance with manufacture’s IFU, AAMI, AORN, and JACO · Performs simple maintenance on equipment by cleaning filters, drains, autoclave chambers, workstations · OSHA standards using different agents, which includes steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, phosphoric acid, enzymatic detergent, alcohol · Ability to choose proper sterilization methods, steam, hydrogen peroxide, or HLD · Ability to choose proper placement, tracking, labeling, biological use, efficacy testing, sterilization cycle, and documenting all load contents · Ability to ensure cycle completion by way of parameter verification to temperature, time, pulses, pressure, and exposure · Upon sterilization completion transport instruments to defined storage locations adhering to strict body mechanics and proper handling of sterile product
