Cashier Lead

Methodist Hospital

Primary shift is Monday-Friday 5:30am - 2:00pm (some flexable schedules/shifts available) with rotating week-ends and holidays.  


Lead Cashier will train and develop fellow cashiers to help build a strong customer focused team of cashiers. Will perform as a cashier majority of time but assist department by Leading the Cashier Team.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Training and Development


·         Trains all new cashiers on the cash register

·         Trains all new cashiers on proper policies and Cash Handling Procedures

·         Reviews and attains signature from new cashiers on Cash Handling Procedures

·         Mentors new cashiers and assists manager with conducting orientation follow up at 30 and 90 days with new cashiers

·         Conducts review sessions as needed for current cashiers



Leads High Standard Cashier Team 

  • Holds other cashiers accountable for following Cash Handling Procedures

·         Holds fellow cashiers accountable for following correct cashier [practices and processes; Trouble shoots as needed any cash handling discrepancy

·         Provides follow up coaching and training as needed to address cash shortages as needed.

·         Participates in Annual Review of all cashiers

·         Communicates pricing and/or machine issues to Food and Nutrition Manager

·         Participates in scheduling of cashiers as needed 



Cashier Performance


·         Will work majority of time as a cashier filling shifts as needed

·         Performs all duties of cashier when performing those tasks

·         Predominately works Mon-Fri but works weekends and holidays as needed for business reasons

·         When performing as a Cashier performs to all standards performing as a role model to all other cashiers




Customer Service


·         Maintains high level of customer service and performance standards

·         Maintains high level of customer service from all cashiers

·         Addresses any customer service issue as he/she observes it directly with cashier

·         Trains and coaches fellow cashiers on appropriate behaviors with customers

·         Trains fellow cashiers on how to follow policies/procedures while providing excellent customer service

·         Works with Food & Nutrition Manager and Retail Manager on customer service program for all cafeteria employees

·         Trains and holds Cashiers accountable for ancillary duties to include condiment stocking, refilling napkins as needed, cleaning condiment area. Restocking of soda, snacks and other areas as needed. Cashier station cleanliness and organization



Basic UPH Performance Criteria 


·         Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

·         Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

·         Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

·         Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

·         Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

·         Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.  Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

High School Diploma/GED






Experience in/with food service and cashier experience

o    Basic computer knowledge: Uses word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail application, and web browser. Comfortable within a Windows OS and learning new applications.

o    Experience with a computer program/software for food service

o    E-mail client
