The Occupational Therapist works Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Rehabilitation, functions as a member of the Occupational Therapy Services team. Establishes treatment plans for a variety of patient diagnosis; treats patients in a variety of settings, provides patient/family education; performs necessary documentation and supervises supportive personnel.

  •  Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrated competence in recognizing and responding to patients physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.
  • Upon receiving physician's referral, interprets order, performs patient evaluations in a timely manner, accurately, thoroughly, and within professional standards and in accordance with diagnosis and circumstances.
  • Completes patient documentation for evaluation, progress, and discharge reports in a timely manner and according to documentation policy. Reports are comprehensive, clear, and concise and follow established guidelines.
  • Provides quality patient treatment according to physician's referral, patient needs, and professional and departmental standards.
  • Fabrication/fitting of splints, therapeutic garments, adaptive equipment.
  • Provide home or community based services. Provide services as contracted to other agencies. Use of modalities, therapeutic equipment, and specialized techniques.
  • Work with rehabilitation, burns, peds, hands, in-patients, out-patients, home care, skilled nursing unit, outside contracts, specialized evaluations (i.e. driver's evaluations, wheelchair evaluations, Lympedema), and any other program or service the department offers to the outpatient clinics.
  • Plans, directs, and supervises treatment as needed on assigned patients which is performed by COTAs, OTAs, or other OTRs and communicates as needed to promote continuity of care throughout the system. Provides instructions to patient and/or family members which are clear, meaningful, and comprehensive.
  • Attends and contributes to patient care staffings. Attends and contributes to departmental and hospital wide meetings and professional activities as appropriate. Provides quality training and supervision of students and volunteers as assigned.
  • Participates in public relations, marketing activities, program development and other projects. Participates in Quality Assurance, program eval, and other monitoring activities as needed.



EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: B.S. or B.A. or entry level Masters Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program. Experience in physical disabilities and/or pediatrics preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS: Must have communication skills to adequately express ideas verbally and in writing. Must have interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, physicians, team members, co-workers and the public. Must be able to drive, travel, and transport patients as needed, using vehicles according to policy.


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Current registration as an Occupational Therapist by the American Occupational Therapy Association required. Current license or temporary license in IA and/or IL required.
