The Infusion Center Nursing Supervisor provides leadership support as part of the unit management team, supporting the Oncology Manager in their responsibility for the development, implementation, and evaluation of care provided, consistent with the established strategic plan, goals, and objectives. The Supervisor carries out the day-to-day operations plan for the infusion center under the direction of the department Manager and/or Director. He/She serves as a clinical resource to other healthcare team members on the designated unit and will provide direct nursing care

Responsibilities

Daily Operations/Staffing

  • Coordinates daily infusion center operations
  • Guides, directs and delegates responsibilities and supervises unit personnel in the delivery of care
  • Responsible for daily staffing plan and ensures that the infusion center schedule and chair capacity is maximized based on defined guidelines
  • Ensures infusion orders and plan of care is administered safely and effectively, coordinating with referring physician offices, pharmacy and other hospital departments
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of and provides operational support for tasks and job functions performed including protocols, processes, policies and procedures
  • Assists in identifying areas of improvement within the infusion center operations
  • Acts as first line decision maker with respect to employee relations situations; informing manager of all employee situations; responsible for evaluation of assigned clinical staff.
  • Reviews daily charges for accuracy

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

 

  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills required in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care
  • Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served
  • Promotes an environment of medication safety
  • Assists with all Code situations in the Infusion Center
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgements and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Preferred or Specialized

 

Education:

 

 

Must be a graduate of accredited School of Nursing. 

BSN Preferred

Experience:

 

 

At least three years of acute care clinical experience  

Oncology Experience

Prefer healthcare supervisory or management experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in primary state.  Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.

 

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

 

 

 

Experience with supplies, equipment, quality assurance, infection control, scheduling, staffing, physician relations

 

Ability to take initiative and exercise
independent judgment, decision
making and problem-solving expertise.

 

Knowledge of clinical practice as it relates to oncology and/or Infusion nursing specialty.

 

 

Other:

 

 

 

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
