The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program. This individual will develop a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving email, direct mail, phone, and face-to-face solicitation, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support.  With a portfolio of 150 prospects, the director will also provide strategic direction and long-range planning for all these areas in the context of growing the annual giving program while supporting the greater development and campaign goals for UnityPoint Health St. Luke’s. 

Responsibilities

Relationship Building & Fundraising - St. Luke’s College

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of prospects including alumni, faculty, staff, community leaders, and businesses using all aspects of the gift cycle (identify, qualify, engage, and personally solicit) to raise money for St. Luke’s College.
  • Focus on securing support for a set of campus-wide priorities for both annual and capital campaigns, including but not limited to the scholarship luncheon and the 50-year reunion.
  • Conduct comprehensive data analysis and interpret statistical data to effectively monitor progress, forecast strategies, and develop programs that will maximize gifts to the College.
  • In coordination with the President of the Foundation and the President of St. Luke’s College, develop a pipeline of major gift prospects from your assigned portfolio.
  • Develop and oversee a strategy to improve donor acquisition, renewal, and pledge fulfillment.
  • Manage multi-channel (mail, phone, email, face-to-face) mass solicitation strategies to increase giving and participation.
  • Identify best practices, opportunity for capacity building and growth, solicitation strategies, and stewardship for St. Luke’s College.
  • Maintains accurate documentation on donor management and gift potential.
  • Assist in developing budgets and goals in coordination with St. Luke’s Foundation team.

Relationship Building & Fundraising - Foundation’s Annual Giving Program

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of prospects including corporate, foundation, community leaders, and businesses using all aspects of the gift cycle (identify, qualify, engage, and personally solicit) to raise money for the Foundation.
  • Develop and execute an annual giving program for the St. Luke’s Foundation, which includes strategies to increase revenue. The program must focus on increasing broad-based support: direct mail, online giving, and fundraising campaigns through social media; moving small gifts to larger gifts (i.e. monthly donor program); and creating a pipeline of donors who move from annual gifts to major gifts.
  • Plan, organize, and execute a Siouxland Business Gifts Campaign.
  • Assist in developing strategy and executing the St. Luke’s Employee Giving Campaign.
  • Develop relationships between the Marketing and Patient Experience Departments to create and execute a Grateful Patient Program.

Administration

  • Field phone calls and inquiries regarding St. Luke’s College, the Annual Giving Program, and other fundraising opportunities.
  • Manage gift-in-kind opportunities. This includes gathering appropriate documentation for non-monetary gifts and arranging for appropriate acknowledgment.
  • Track fundraising campaign data for St. Luke’s College and the Annual Giving Program.
  • Support the CEO, Foundation President, and President of St. Luke’s College in any development and fundraising activities.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and rounding in the hospital.
  • Assist in all other duties as assigned.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.  Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:

 

 

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Marketing/Communications or related field. 

Preferred Master’s Degree

Experience:

 

 

 

 

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in development and/or sales experience.

 

Preferred 1-3 years focus on major gifts and/or capital campaigns.

License(s)/Certification(s):

 

 

 

 

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
