Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist 

Full Time 1.0 FTE

Day Shift 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday (Hours may vary based on need)

The Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing prevention services related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs to individuals, families and organizations.  The work requires using a specialized set of knowledge, experience, training and skills to encourage healthy attitudes and behaviors which prevent the use/abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

• Put into action goals and steps identified through delivery of evidence based interventions.
• Use fidelity and adaption in all prevention programming.
• Identify resources ad build readiness to address substance use and misuse. 
• Assess community resources and readiness to address factors through collection, organization and analysis of data.
• Participate in prioritizing issues and prevention goals, outcomes and action steps.

• Graduated from a college or university with a bachelor's degree in an education or human services field.
• Experience with education or related human service activities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities and skills in substance abuse prevention.
• Valid driver's class D Iowa driver's license or an equivalent license from the employee's state of residence when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
• Prevention Specialist Certification through the State of Iowa within the first 18 months of employment.
