Purpose:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is accountable for facilitating responsible provision of pharmacy services through the performance of hospital pharmacy functions, such as the preparation and delivery of medications to nursing and/or ancillary departments under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Essential Functions (including, but not limited to):

1. Support the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.
2. Prepare and delivery non-sterile medications to nursing units and ancillary departments per schedule and as needed.
3. Unit dose medication per shift and as needed.
4. OR fill is pulled and delivered once per shift and as needed.
5. Narcotics are pulled and delivered once per shift and as needed.
6. Nursing/Ancillary unit check and pharmacy outdates monthly.
7. Answering telephone and transferring calls as needed.
8. Refill and replace used crash carts and RSI kits.
9. Compounding and reconstitutions as needed.
10. Miscellaneous - Refrigerator temps documentation.
11. Tech-Check-Tech checking
12. Job duties in IV hood room to prepare batched and IV products

A. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

B. Must be registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician or obtain certification within one year of being hired.

C. 6 or more months of on-the-job training in a retail pharmacy or 2 months in a hospital pharmacy preferred.

D. Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

E. Knowledge of the department's policies and procedures.
